Lodging – Where Do We Bunk?

Well, that depends......let's look at the options.

Lodging at the Ranch

Guests stay in private, rustic cabins. Each has two beds, twins or doubles depending on the size and friendliness of your party, a table with a kerosene lamp, and wool rugs for that first step in the morning. Some out of date reading material, a small woodstove and some old cowboy stuff on the walls will make you feel like you expect to. Your cabin is just a few footsteps from our cookhouse, where you'll eat well and enjoy the company of the wranglers and your fellow guests. The view in the morning and at twilight is stunning.

Guest cabin

We feel extremely lucky to be able to offer steaming hot showers for your pleasure at the end of a long riding day, and a taste of the old west awaits you when you head toward the outhouse. We have the nicest ones you will ever use. You'll never go back to flush.

Lodging at Cowcamps
Under the stars or in wall tents, depending on the season. Check out Spring, Summer, and Fall Ranch Weeks for details.

On the Trail

A cowboy's work is never done, and many lunches will be eaten in the saddle; after all, there's just too much work to be done for a picnic every day. Before leaving in the morning, pack yourself a fresh, hearty sandwich and soda, or stuff your saddlebags with one of many snacks, like chips, cookies, or trail mix. Make sure your canteen is ALWAYS FULL! If we're pitching camp for the night, a chuck wagon or a wall tent becomes our kitchen, serving up range feasts to keep you fueled for the next day's work.

CANYON CREEK CAMP

We have a new camp we are using now called Canyon Creek. It’s about 25 miles east of the main H.Q. at the foot of Canyon Creek Mountain. Takes about 6 hours horseback or a bit over an hour by truck.

It’s a really nice camp out there, we have a two room cabin, one room is a kitchen and dining area the other a bunk room with four bunk beds, table and wood stove. Just the way an old-line camp was. Most of the year the creek flows a few feet behind the cabin.

There are new corrals for horses and sorting cattle. By early summer 2006 we will have a shower house and hopefully another two-room bunkhouse. Of course you are always welcome to use a tent, which you can set up in any beautiful place you like. Just down the canyon is a deep, cool grotto full of ice cold water for that quick cowboy bath.

We will be spending a lot of time at this camp through out the year either on a weeklong basis or stopping by as we travel the range.

Posse Week

Oh, yeah, posse week. Well, you're on your own. Ok, not exactly. We'll supply your group with enough grub and drinks to get you through the week. The only thing is, you've got to figure out how to fix it without getting yourself killed by the other team. Raiding the dinner table is always encouraged!

Gear – What to Bring?

Clothing and Riding Gear

-long sleeved shirts, light colored in spring and summer
-heavy sweater and/or wind breaker! Even in the middle of summer, when the sun goes down it gets COLD.
-scarf or bandana for those dustier trails
-gloves
-walking shoes or hiking boots
-boots with heels for riding (hiking boots don't make it, unless you don't want to ride)
-hat: cowboy. Cowboy hats offer more protection from our intense sun. Baseball caps also needed for POSSE WEEK
-canteen with a study strap. The size we suggest is one quart or one liter.
-rain gear--but please, no super-light "disposable" ponchos

Personal Items

-toiletries
-chapstick or some kind of lip balm with sun protection
-towel
-sunglasses
-sleeping bag rated down to thirty, this is needed for all ranch stays
-flashlight and extra batteries
-camera
-musical instruments, if you like to play!
-BOOZE! B.Y.O.B.; we'll stop at a grocery store on the way here from Albq. so you can stock up
-cash. Our cooks and wranglers live to make your stay nice. If the cook fed ya well, and the wranglers showed you a good time then our suggestion is a 15% tip

Things to Forget:

We have no electricity so leave those blow dryers, curling irons, shavers, and radios at home. Your cellular phones won't work here either. Besides, you're on vacation!

And hey, we know your dog is special and sweet and perfect, but ours aren't and we have too many as it is, so please, NO DOGS!

We are a long way from anywhere, and a three hour drive to the nearest drug store, so please be sure you have an adequate supply of all medications you may need.

When you make your reservation, we'll send you a complet packing list. Go over it carefully, and you'll have all you need for your vacation.
