Our Horses and Our Attitude

If you're looking for a place where you can run your horse around all day and expect a new one in the morning we are definitely not the place for you. Our horses mean everything to us, they are not pets, they are partners. If they weren't born here then most have been here since they were two or three years old and most will never leave the ranch. We have a great string of horses and take great pride in them. Our horses are well mannered, no broncs here. They stand when you mount; work off your leg, light on the rein, a pleasure to ride. They are all great cow horses, they know how to do their job and do it well. Whether you are an experienced hand or a first time puncher they will make you smile.

After work our horses have run of a 10,000-acre pasture every night except when we are in camp. Horses are happiest in a herd and in wide-open spaces. Our horses live as naturally as a horse with a job can. Like you, they are not pampered here but you won't see a thin horse, poorly shod horse or mistreated horse here.

Our horses are like the rest of us here, they ride for the brand. They do an honest days work and they enjoy what they do for a living. There is nothing so satisfying as rubbing down a fine horse at sunset after you both did a good days work. We respect our horses and expect you to treat them as your own.

Most of our riding is at a walk because we are working cattle; you can only go as fast as the slowest cow. This isn't Hollywood ; we don't chase our cattle around. You will learn to work cattle professionally which is quietly and patiently.

When we are out on a scout or riding fence we often will set a walk/trot pace, we rarely run our horses. A horse can go all day at a walk/trot but start running and you soon have a blown horse.

We try to keep you on the same horse all week. This is how bonds are forged; it doesn't happen in a few hours or a day. At weeks end you will have one more friend.
