April 30, 2004: No Guests Friday, April 30, 2004 It’s been a week of just plain hard work. We have the guest camp in pretty good shape. Everything has come together and the place looks fine. Oh there are a few things that didn’t get done but they were just little things I had on my wish list and I guess they will stay there for a while longer. Mostly it has been driving nails, plumbing and painting but we have also been riding horses. All of them have been out several times, just trying to get the backs toughened up. We walk trot them up to N Bar Park and back, it’s a bit over an hour. These are a great bunch of horses, not a buck or balk among them. They are just as good as when we put them out to pasture last fall. Well I take that back, one horse I bought last fall bucked out pretty good with Hollis’ teenage son who is riding for us. It was just a little show and the kind of bucking horse I like to ride, stayed in one spot and pitched. As we watched I wish I had been aboard. That horse will be a wrangler horse for a while. The weather has been pretty steady, highs in the 50’s to 60’s and lows in the low 20’s. All the days were sunny but today, which was cloudy with a few snow showers and a high of only 40. John our new cowboy has been working out fine and Nina…my oh my this gal can cook! I’d venture to say she is gonna be our best. Vic has been a huge help around here especially with the plumbing and pump and fitting stuff. Couldn’t have done it without him. I wish there was more to write about but it was just a pretty long boring week. Next week the fun starts again. I am looking forward to the guests arriving and the beginning of spring gather and branding.
