March 28, 2004: No GuestsSunday, March 28, 2004 Well we got back from our vacation today and how good it was to get home! We were gone three weeks, about two weeks too long. I won’t go into any long details of it other than a brief summary. We took the train from Demming, New Mexico. The train was nine hours late and it was a long nine hours sitting by the tracks at a deserted, boarded up old train station. Once we got going it was pretty fun. Great country across Texas, then it got a bit boring once we headed into the piney woods of the deep south. It sure made us appreciate the vast horizons we have at home, I felt kinda claustrophobic there. We met Cassady in Fla. Then went and spent some time with my mom. It had been over a year since we had been there so it was long over due. We did a little fishing with no luck, ate some good seafood which is a treat for New Mexico folks. We went into Orlando and did the tourist things, Seaworld, Wet n Wild, etc. A week was spent on a houseboat cruising the Suwannee river, not seeing any people at all, but lots of alligators, birds and other cool swamp stuff. Then back for a few more days at moms house. We saw Cassady off at the airport and were more than ready to get on the train headed west. It is a three day ride and when we woke the last day in Texas and saw wide open spaces, cattle and ranches a comfortable feeling swept over us. We had left the ranch having to chain up to get through all the snow and mud, when we got home it was sunny warm and green with the snow long gone. The air smelled of spring and we sure felt fine. Lyndsey had done a great job taking care of things and we found everything in good order.
